ANALYSIS OF KNOWLEDGE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS IN PRINCIPLES OF EVIDENTIARY MEDICINE AND EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGIES IN SEMEY
Background: At present evidence-based medicine is the fundamental tool for decision-making on the choice of medical technology. Access to reliable information on the basis of the evidence is not sufficient in developing countries, although it is the most effective and achievable strategy for the conservation and improvement in health care.
The aim: evaluate the knowledge of health professionals on the principles of evidence-based medicine and effective technologies in Semey of the East Kazakhstan
Methods: According to the study design cross-sectional. The study was conducted in the city of Semey in East Kazakhstan. The survey conducted among medical and nursing staff in obstetric service (83 medical workers).
Results: Average age among obstetrician-gynecologist equaled 41.4 years (95% CI 28.4 to 54.4), midwives, 42 years old (95% CI 30.2 to 53.8). Over the past three years, refresher courses on effective perinatal technologies of the past 85% of obstetrician - gynecologists and 86% of midwives. Most doctors and midwives (57.5% and 74.4%, respectively) did not pass a refresher course on the principles of evidence-based medicine, implementation and monitoring of clinical guidelines and protocols into medical practice. Most doctors (77%) and (72.1%) midwives said they would like to take courses in evidence-based medicine, monitoring the implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols. The assessment of the health workers showed 43.4% poor knowledge, only 7.2% showed a good knowledge.
Conclusion: "Unsatisfactory" knowledge of the respondents have a relationship with the time elapsed since the last specialization, passing or not passing rate of improvement on effective perinatal technology and the principles of evidence-based medicine. Also, there was a link between the low estimate obtained and ignorance of the English language and a lack of access to databases of reliable studies.
