POSSIBILITIES OF MAMMOGRAPHIC SCREENING IN THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF BREAST CANCER
Keywords:
breast cancerAbstract
There is currently a reduction in breast cancer (BC) mortality due to mammographic screening. According to the data of
the American Cancer Society, the annual BC death reduction rate is 2,3% , thus has declined by 24% since 1990. A 70%
reduction in the number of females who die from BC has resulted from the early tumor detection by mammography and there
has been a 30% decrease due to a combination of better treatment and women greater awareness of breast cancer. The
screening has assisted in increasing the detection rate of BC in situ (DCIS), which is about20-30% / For example, in Italy, the
ratio of screening/prescreening periods in the incidence of DCIS was 1.12-1.77. The reduction in BC mortality has been noted in young women to a greater extent that in women from older age groups. In some authors opinion, screening and adjuvant therapy virtually equally affect the reduction in BC mortality.
