ROLE OF NURSES IN VACCINATING CHILDREN
Introduction: In many countries there are problems in vaccination coverage of children. The danger of the situation lies not only in the presence of complications of infections that occur in unvaccinated children, but also in the wide spread of the disease with the inefficiency of population immunity. Therefore, the relevance of the study of the impact of the activities of nurses on the coverage of mass immunization of the population is undeniable, since it is nurses who often become specialists responsible for the process of organizing vaccination, and are played by the main instructors in educating parents and guardians on the preventive effectiveness of vaccines and their safety. The purpose of the research: analysis of literature on international experience of defining the role of the nurse in the promotion of vaccination among the child population. Search strategy: With a goal of maximum coverage of this goal, we conducted a review of the literature in different databases. The analysis of 45 full-text English-and Russian-language publications from the databases Cinahl, Google Scholar, PubMed, eLibrary, WHO, Cochrane Library, TRIP since 2000. The following search queries were used for the search: “Nurses, vaccine, history/evolution”, “nursing, vaccination, epidemiology”, “Perception, nursing profession, future”, “Career development, nursing, perception”, “nurses, children / age all child, knowledge / approach / attitude / organization”. The relevance of the sources was assessed by reading the headings followed by an abstract/abstract. The results of the study found in the published study contained a variety of information about the role of nurses in vaccination of children. The analysis of articles confirming the importance of vaccination in principle, further identified the need for training nurses to understand the importance of vaccination and communication skills and the role of nurses in understanding the importance of parents and guardians of vaccination. A review of foreign literature shows that views on the need for vaccination, the effectiveness and safety of vaccines have been very controversial. In some articles, the authors note the willingness to be vaccinated among nurses, their positive educational role among the population. On the other hand, many nursing professionals do not view vaccination as an evidence-based recommendation, but as an act of will within the framework of responsibility for one's own health. This literature review has helped to identify problems with the insufficiently favorable vaccination prognosis and the leading role of nursing professionals in promoting immunization of children both abroad and in our country. Conclusions: the current understanding of the role of nurses in the promotion of vaccination among the population remains very ambiguous, and the study of the influence of nursing specialists on mass immunization coverage is one of the urgent problems of modern health care.
