CLINICAL FEATURES OF CORONAVIRUS INFECTION AMONG PATIENTS WITH CANCER IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN
Relevance. In 2019, our world is facing a new infectious disease COVID-19. Coronavirus has not spared cancer patients. As everyone knows, cancer patients are very sensitive to infections, this is due to an immunodeficiency condition caused by special therapy for a malignant neoplasm. To date, the clinical characteristics of cancer patients infected with COVID-19 remain largely unknown, so one of the ways to reduce mortality among this category of patients is to study the clinical features of coronavirus infection among patients with cancer. Thus, we aimed to study these problems by conducting an urgent retrospective study of patients with critical diseases infected with COVID-19.
Aim: to study the clinical features of coronavirus infection in patients with cancer.
Materials and methods of research. In our work, we analyzed data from the database of the medical information system of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which included medical records, demographic characteristics, clinical signs, objective status, laboratory data, and instrumental data. We selected 883 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in patients with various nosologies from 14 regions and 3 cities of national significance of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the period from March 13, 2020 to may 28, 2020.
Research result. The following clinical features were identified in patients with malignant neoplasms infected with Covid-19: in addition to typical signs such as cough, fever, weakness, there was also a reduction in breathing, this is with less physical activity, headache, General weakness, chills, sweating, decreased resistance to physical activity. Two patients with malignancies had anemia and hypoproteinemia, which can negatively affect immunocompetence and increase sensitivity to respiratory pathogens. Also, the age of the patient over 60 years and the presence of concomitant diseases in the anamnesis.
Conclusions. So we need to pay more attention to cancer patients, especially those who are receiving active treatment, given the higher risk. In most of the considered examples, we can talk about one or another manifestation of the disease as a consequence of COVID-19.
