ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH HEAD AND NECK TUMORS USING QUESTIONNAIRES AGAINST THE BACKGROUND OF SPECIALIZED TREATMENT
Introduction: Patients with malignant head and neck tumors need to preserve the quality of life, the use of any of the available treatments is characterized by aggressiveness and can lead to deterioration of the function of the organs responsible for speech, eating and breathing, with a subsequent reduction in quality of life in the form of dysphagia and difficulty in breathing, swallowing, the appearance of cosmetic defects of the face and neck, xerostomia, trismus, hearing loss, lower jaw osteonecrosis are common symptoms after radiation, all of which cannot but affect the well-being of the patient in all areas of human life [1], [13]. There is a gap in the study of QOL in patients with head and neck cancer in Kazakhstan, there are no studies examining the relationship between QOL predictors and survival rate, the present work aims to fill this gap at least to a small extent and draw attention to this problem.
Objective: to analyze articles with the study of QOL of patients against the background of specialized treatment.
Search Strategy: Automated searches for relevant sources were conducted, using the keywords, quality of life, head and neck tumors, questionnaires, radiotherapy in PubMed scientific databases, as well as manual searches in Google Scholar. The depth of the search was 10 years (from 2011 to 2021). Sources were selected according to the underlying context of the study. Of the 56 articles, 5 questionnaires were identified to assess the QOL of patients with Head and Neck Tumors. Analysis of the source and the allocation of information blocks, subsequently used in writing the review.
Inclusion Criteria: there was no strict criterion for the inclusion of materials in the literature review, other than the use of materials by context and by the researcher's expert analysis, because we did not have full access to databases of paid literature, nor to manuscripts in partial access.
Results: Questionnaire analysis (FACT-H&N, UW-QOL, EORTC QLQ-C30/QLQ-H&N35/43) presented a statistically significant correlation of QOL and adverse treatment symptoms [3].
Conclusions: Careful monitoring of QOL assessment allows the medical staff to represent the effect of the chosen treatment intervention more accurately and to form groups of patients at risk of progression, as a result it can be used as a new prognostic marker of survival.
