OVERWEIGHT AND OBESITY PREVENTION PROGRAMS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES. REVIEW.
Relevance. The prevalence of obesity is growing at an alarming rate in many countries of the world. About 2 billion people are overweight, and one third of them are obese. Based on existing data on prevalence and trends, as well as epidemiological data linking obesity with a range of physical and psychosocial diseases, it is reasonable to characterize obesity as a public health crisis that seriously worsens people's health and quality of life and significantly гincreases national health budgets. To reverse current trends, intersectoral action is urgently needed to combat and prevent obesity. Objective. To analyze the literature data on overweight and obesity prevention programs in foreign countries Search strategy. Full-text publications in English and Russian, which are devoted to programs for the prevention of overweight and obesity among children and adults, have been studied. In the process of literature search, the following search engines were used: Pubmed, Web of science, Cyberleninka, Google Scholar for the keywords overweight, obesity, epidemiology, prevention, risk factors. The time period was designated 2012-2022. The criteria for inclusion: full-text publications in Russian and English, which are publicly available and contain statistically confirmed conclusions. Exclusion criteria: summary reports, newspaper articles and personal messages. 610 publications have been identified on this topic. Of these, 60 publications corresponded to the purpose of our study. The algorithm for selecting literary sources → Study of programs for the prevention of overweight and obesity in foreign countries → Study of articles from journals, scientific collections, dissertations → Systematization of material → Literature analysis and article writing. Results and conclusions. From a comparison of data on obesity in recent years, it follows that in all countries there is a tendency to increase the prevalence, although many of these countries have adopted prevention programs and specific strategies to combat obesity. A possible explanation for the increase in the prevalence of obesity may be the low effectiveness of the proposed preventive measures (i.e. monitoring, the approach of stakeholders and the population, taxes, legislation, physical activity, etc.) identified in the WHO country reviews on nutrition, physical activity and obesity.
