ISSUES OF ORGANIZING SAFE MANAGEMENT OF WASTE FROM HEALTHCARE INSTITUTIONS. REVIEW.
Relevance: The review of the literature is devoted to the issues of organizing the safe handling of medical waste in medical institutions.
In modern conditions, in connection with the development and use in medicine of new diagnostic methods, the use of the latest dosage forms (chemical, bacteriological, etc.), disposable syringes, systems, individual packages, low-radioactive isotopes for the treatment, the development of new surgical methods of treatment in medical institutions generate a large amount of waste, which, due to its specificity, requires special attention and immediate resolution of issues related to their collection, storage and disposal, as a source of environmental pollution, which has hygienic, epidemiological and social significance.
Аim: Study and analysis of literature sources on the organization of safe handling of medical waste in medical institutions.
Search Strategy: Scientific publications were searched in the following databases: PubMed, Medline, eLibrary, using the scientific search engine Google Scholar. Search depth - 5 years. A total of 263 literature sources were found, of which 46 publications were selected for further analysis. Criteria for inclusion of publications in the literature review: publications in Russian and English; publications included in the PubMed, Medline, e-Library databases; resolutions and orders on the biosafety of medical waste for the last 5 years. Exclusion criteria: publications without a clear formulation of the results and conclusions; articles, abstracts with paid access.
Results and conclusions. Medical organizations face the problem of low practices in sorting, collecting, storing, transporting and disposing of waste, which can lead to occupational risks. The level of knowledge and awareness regarding proper waste management remains low due to insufficient training of medical personnel.
